The distorted arrangement of natural and artificial materials that belie the work conceptually show how everyday perceptions are manipulated by an altered understanding of the landscape. The stylized shape of the tree was intended to express a biologically skewed or otherwise genetically modified version of something familiar yet foreign. A variety of construction methods were used to depict the likeness of an ash tree and it’s threat from the invasive Emerald Ash Borer Beetle, Agrilus planipennis. The beetle has infested twenty-one states and accounts for the destruction of tens of millions of Ash trees from the mid west to the North Kingdoms of New England and Canada.
